SOLUTION: A light shielding plate 8b is formed on the light incident side of the polarizing element 8 along the ridge line formed by the light incident surface of V-shaped two glass plates 8a to shield the light reflected on the glass plates 8a. Thus, the S polarized light reflected on the glass plates 8a is not made incident on the facing glass plate. And, the S polarized light passing through the polarizing plate 8 can be reduced and adverse influence on the extinction ratio by the reflected light can be reduced. The light shielding plates 8b may be formed to all plural glass plates combined in the V-shape.
