PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitoring system for an elevator that allows data communication for remote monitoring using a personal handy-phone system(PHS) network. SOLUTION: The remote monitoring system for an elevator, which comprises a monitor device 3 for monitoring an elevator as a target of monitoring, and a remote monitor center 8 installed separately from the monitor device to remotely monitor the elevator according to information from the monitor device via a telephone line, is provided with an adapter 4 connected to the monitor device 3 to convert information from the monitor device into a digital signal type transmittable via a PHS communication network and transmit it in a pseudo-voice mode when establishing communication, a PHS terminal 5 connected to the adapter, and a base station 6 connected to the remote monitor center 8 via an analog telephone line so as to communicate with the PHS terminal via the PHS network.
