PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning agent which has a high sebum-removing action and is useful for the maintenance of the hair and the prevention of hair falling. SOLUTION: This cleaning agent for the scalp, characterized by containing a sebum-dissolving agent comprising a compound represented by the general formula (I) (R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently H, OH or a 1 to 4C alkyl; X is oxygen atom or methylene group whose hydrogen atom may be replaced with a hydroxyl group as a substituent; R5 is a 1 to 4C alkyl which may have one to four hydroxyl groups, and the compound has two or more hydroxyl groups in the molecule).
