PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for producing a glyceryl ether usable in various applications such as a solvent, a cosmetic, a detergent, an emulsifying agent, a humectant, a wetting agent and an oil in high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the glyceryl ether comprises reacting an alcohol with anα-epihalohydrin in the presence of an acidic catalyst, producing a halohydrin ether and then cyclizing and simultaneously hydrolyzing the halohydrin ether in the presence of a carboxylic acid, a strongly basic compound and water.
