PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To match the color components of color sequential image pickup light picked up by an imaging device to the color components of color sequential modulated light space-light modulated in a DMD after delay time Td, based on the color sequential image pickup signals of the color components. SOLUTION: The imaging device 26 photoelectrically converts the color sequential image pickup light L9 and outputs the color sequential image pickup signals S6. A signal processing circuit 28 performs image processing on the color sequential image pickup signals S6 and outputs color sequential image signals S4. A DMD-driving circuit 22 inputs the color sequential image signals S4, writes them to a frame memory 221, reads them after the lapse of a time td and outputs DMD driving signals S5. The DMD 4 space-light modulates color sequential light L2 and outputs a color sequential modulated light L5. The DMD-driving circuit 22 changes the color components of the color sequential modulated light L5 with the delay time Td to the color components of the color sequential image pickup light L9. A color sequential drive synchronizing circuit 23 outputs rotation control signals S2 to a motor 11, so as to change the rotation angle of a rotary color filter disk 7, after the elapse of the delay time Td toθ.
