To allow work to be carried out at metal surfaces, suspended scaffolds are held against the surface by a number of U-shaped holders bonded to it. Water-resistant and rust-free base plates (10) are bonded durably at intervals to the metal surface. The holders (16) are secured to the base plates by release bolt and plug mountings (14), which are replaced in the base plates when the holders are removed.
