PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the feed quantity or the unwinding quantity of a photographic material. SOLUTION: A support roll 30 is rotated following a flange 24 provided on an end of a disposable reel 80. A disk 36 is fixed to an end of the support roll 30. Silts 50 are formed in an outer circumferential part of the disk 36 at equal intervals, and the slits 50 are detected by a photo-interrupter 12. A control device 52 operates the feed quantity or the unwinding quantity of the photographic material 40 from the count number of the slit 50 passing through the photo-interrupter 12 and the roll diameter of the photographic material 40 when the counting is started. Errors due to the slip can be eliminated since the feed quantity is operated from the rotation of the disposable reel 80 for a method for operating the carriage length of the photographic material 40 from the number of rotation of a nip roller for nipping the photographic material 40.
