PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure device which hardly gives rise to the defects, based on the change in the transporting speed of recording paper in the exposure device which has an exposure head for forming exposure spots, corresponding to many pixels lining up in the main scanning direction onto the recording paper and a transporting mechanism for transporting the recording paper along a sub-scanning direction which intersects with the main scanning direction; is transporting mechanism having a first roller pair on the upstream side of pixel forming points with respect to the sub- scanning direction, a second roller pair on the downstream side and means for rotationally driving the respective roller pairs at prescribed speeds; the respective roller pairs, having stationary rollers and press-contacting rollers having axial center displaceable with the stationary rollers and which device has control means for changing over the press-contacting rollers between the press-contact positions, where the recording paper is brought into press-contact with the rollers and the press-contact release position where the press-contact is released in the transporting process of the recording paper. SOLUTION: The device is so constituted that the differences between the spacings between the stationary rollers 83 and the press-contacting rollers 84 in the press-contact release positions and the thickness of the recording paper 2 are 0.5 mm or smaller.
