PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the fixing device of a printer which can stably supply the best fixation temperature for various thicknesses of recording materials and provide a high-quality image free of a defect in fixation. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a temperature measuring means (27) which measures the temperature of a heating means (13) and a control means which detects the thickness of a recording material (7) passing through the heating means according to the output of the temperature measuring means and calculates heating value per unit time needed for the toner image fixation on the recording material according to the detected thickness.
