PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device for properly selecting two of a plurality of light beam sources which are obliquely arranged at different intervals, lighting them and forming the images of various resolutions. SOLUTION: In the image forming device 1, a plurality of LD are obliquely arranged in an LD unit at the different intervals in a main scanning direction and a subscanning direction. When a printing instruction is given, the resolution of image data just before is compared with that of image data becoming the object of the present printing instruction. When the change of resolution is required, two LD corresponding to the resolution of picture data becoming the object of the printing instruction are selected. It is judged whether two selected LD are appropriate or not from the detection result of a synchronism detection sensor and a detection result that the synchronism detection sensor is to previously detect with the above resolution. When two LD which are appropriate for the resolution are selected, a printing operation is performed by selected LD. When the selection of two LD is mistaken, an error message is outputted and a processing is terminated (steps S101 to S105).
