An object of the present invention is to synthesize a novel vitamin D derivative having a methyl group at the 3-position. The present invention provides vitamin D derivatives represented by the general formula (1): <CHEM> wherein X represents -CH2-, -O- or -S-; and R<1> represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic C1-C15 hydrocarbon group which may be substituted by 1 to 3 hydroxyl groups or protected hydroxyl groups.
