PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine of a low compression type, so as to solve a problem that high compression is required in a conventional diesel engine because air is compressed to be brought into a self-ingition temperature, and that energy consumption is high and an engine output gets low or likely. SOLUTION: A bottom dead center part inside the first cylinder 3 is communicated with a bottom dead center part inside the second cylinder 4 by a communication means 26, combustion gas of a high temperature generated inside the first cylinder 3 is supplied into the second cylinder 4 via the communication means 26 in an explosion stroke in the first cylinder 1, and combustion gas of a high temperature generated in the second cylinder 4 is supplied into the first cylyinder 3 via the communication means 26 in an explosion stroke in the second cylinder 2. A temperature inside the cylinder under an intale stroke reaches to 1000 deg.C higher than 680 deg.C which is the self-ignition temperature of gas oil, by the supply of the combustion gas of the high temperature, and atmospheric pressure rises to about 1 atm. Since a temperature of compressed air is already higher than the self-ignition temperature of gas oil in this time, a compression ratio is set to a value lower than that in the prior art to provide the diesel engine of high performance.
