PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stress distribution measuring method for measuring stress distribution in a sample from the light intensity distribution in photoelastic fringes and capable of analyzing the stress distribution in real time. SOLUTION: An analyzer 5 is successively rotated by an angle a at a time in a fixed direction. Further, a 1/4 wavelength plate 4 is successively rotated by an angle 2αat a time in the same direction as the analyzer 5. By synchronizing their rotation with the frame rate of a CCD camera for example, the principal directionθof stresses and the principal stress difference in a surface of the specimen 10 can be analyzed in real time.
