PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decreasing the syneresis of a specific aqueous composition and simultaneously for improving the thickening efficiency of the composition. SOLUTION: In this method for decreasing the syneresis of an aqueous composition containing a thickener and for improving the thickening efficiency of the composition, a high-mol.-wt. monophobe containing at least one hydrophilic segment and only one hydrophobic segment is added to the composition.
