PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently warehouse/ship cargo and to save space in an automatic warehouse. SOLUTION: In the automatic warehouse for disposing a cargo transfer device capable of putting in/out cargo 5 on a desired shelf plate on a side surface of a rack 1 for assembling a plurality of struts 3 and multiple stages of shelf plates 4 in grid shape, a storing/warehousing port 13 for the cargo 5 is made by opening an other side surface of at least any one section of a plurality of sections surrounded by a pair of struts 3 adjacent each other and a pair of shelf plates 4 on the other side surface of the rack 1 and preventing means 14 and 15 for preventing putting in/out of the cargo 5 are provided on the other side surface of the other section.
