PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine lubricating structure capable of securing full lubricity on the sliding surfaces of valve lifters and cam noses, even for an engine having an approximately horizontal cylinder bore axis. SOLUTION: In the lubricating structure for lubricating the sliding portions of the valve lifters 20 and 21 and the cam noses 18b and 19b of the engine having a direct-operated valve mechanism for directly pressing a valve shaft by means of the cam noses 18b and 19b via the valve lifters 20 and 21 and mounted in a vehicle body with a cylinder axis (a) being approximately horizontal, an oil reservoir 30 where at least the end portions of the cam noses 18b and 19b are dipped in lubricating oil is formed by a cam cap 29a journaling the journal parts 18a and 19a of camshafts 18 and 19 and by the peripheral edges of the openings of guide holes 4g and 4h in a cylinder head 4 where the valve lifters slide.
