PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adhesive composition capable of exhibiting excellent wettability and adhesion even to an adherend surface subjected to a water repellent treatment at a high level and exhibiting various performances such as initial adhesive strength, dry adhesive strength, water resistance and heat resistance in a well balanced state and especially suitably usable as an adhesive for a water repellent converted paper. SOLUTION: This adhesive composition is an emulsion comprising a urethane resin in an amount of >=5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the total amount of an acrylic or a methacrylic ester copolymer and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and limonene or hydrogenate limonene in an amount of >=25 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the total amount of the acrylic or the methacrylic ester copolymer and the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The adhesive composition is an emulsion comprising the urethane resin in an amount of >=5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the total amount of the acrylic or the methacrylic ester copolymer and the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, the limonene or hydrogenated limonene in an amount of >=25 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the total amount of the acrylic or the methacrylic ester copolymer and the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and a dialkylsulfosuccinic acid ester salt.
