PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing an indole-3-carboxylic acid derivative useful as an intermediate for synthesizing medicals/ agrochemicals. SOLUTION: This method comprises subjecting an indole derivative to the action of microorganismal cells or a treated product thereof having the ability to convert the above derivative to the corresponding indole-3-carboxylic acid derivative and collecting the objective indole-3-carboxylic acid derivative formed.
