PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge treatment method and apparatus whereby suspended substances in a raw sludge are flocculated without fail and both the improvement in dewaterability of sludge and the decrease in water content of a dewatered cake are achieved. SOLUTION: A refining step X comprising a first step X1 wherein a raw sludge is reacted with a first flocculant G1 comprising an anionic polymer flocculant A or a cationic polymer flocculant C and a second step X2 wherein the sludge treated in the first step X1 is reacted with a polymer flocculant (a second flocculant G2) having a sign different from that of the flocculant used in the first step X1 is conducted. Then, a dewatering step Y is conducted by using a multiple-disk type dewatering apparatus 2 equipped with a dewatering treatment vessel 3. In the vessel 3, filter body lines 6, 7, formed by arranging a plurality of filter bodies 6a-6e, 7a-7j, each having many disks L, M arranged therein in the direction of a rotary shaft 8, in adjacent lines, are installed in two, upper and lower, stages facing each other so that, by rotating the rotary filter bodies 6a-6e, 7a-7j, the refined sludge S is filtered and dewatered while being transported and a dewatered cake T is discharged.
