PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article having high leakage preventing effect while increasing its excretion trapping and pad housing properties. SOLUTION: A throwaway diaper 1 comprises a liquid permeable surface sheet 2, a liquid-unpermeable leakage preventing sheet 3 and a liquid retaining absorber 4. It is substantially rectangular and has solid guards 6 at both right and left sides in the longitudinal direction, each of the solid guards 6 having an end portion 6a and a rising portion 6b. An end-portion elastic area is elastically formed near the end portion 6a and a leg gathered area 8 is formed near the rising portion 6b. Leg elastic members 7a, 7b, 7c forming the leg gathered area 8 are held and fixed between a solid guard forming sheet 16 forming the solid guard 6 and a cover sheet 26 arranged for covering the leg elastic members 7a, 7b, 7c.
