PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of monitoring workers and the manufacturing cost by automatically controlling the position of an untwisting part to be low, and to stabilize and improve the quality of product. SOLUTION: In the untwisting plate controlling method, an untwisting recess 13 is generated at the upstream side position of the untwisting plate 10 when untwisting the steel strand wire 6 by the untwisting plate 10, and the untwisting plate is controlled by the advancing/retracting motion in the traveling direction of the steel strand wire corresponding to the rotational speed of the untwisting plate 10. A contact roller 12 for detecting the position is brought into contact with the untwisting recess 13 to detect the advancing/retracting position of the untwisting recess 13 with respect to the reference position. When the untwisting recess 13 is advanced, the rotational speed of the untwisting plate 10 is increased. When the recess is retracted, the rotation is controlled to reduce the rotational speed by a control means 9. Thereby, the untwisting plate 10 is held at the predetermined position to stabilize the position of the untwisting part 11.
