PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily reduce the water content of a high-water-content industrial waste, of which the treatment has been difficult, to thereby provide its handling method and convert the waste into a useful material. SOLUTION: In order to reduce the water content of a high-water-content industrial waste, a water-permeable bag is filled with a simple-type water absorbent, such as rock wool, quicklime, or calcined gypsum, or a reactive-type water absorbent. The bag containing the water absorbent is immersed in the high-water-content industrial waste to cause the absorbent to indirectly absorb water alone, thus enabling water in the waste to be reduced without changing the pH or physical properties of the waste. The absorbent having absorbed water in the bag can be recycled by drying, thermal decomposition and dewatering, etc.
