<p>Conventionally, it has been difficult to record an inputted bit stream efficiently at the rate of the inputted bit stream if rate information is not added to the inputted bit stream and not transmitted. A data recording device of the invention has signal processing means (4) for encoding an inputted bit stream to a record signal, a packet counter section (3) for counting the packets constituting the inputted bit stream for a fixed time, a system controller (6) for controlling the recording rate at which the record signal is recorded on a tape recording medium (8), and recording means (5) for recording the record signal on the tape recording medium (8). The rate of the inputted bit stream is calculated from the output of the packet counting section (3) so as to control the recording rate. Thus the input signal is recorded efficiently according to the rate of the input signal.</p> |
