PURPOSE: To provide a surface display in which a uniform luminance which has no uneven brightness. CONSTITUTION: The surface display comprises an outer enclosing unit, which includes a transparent front glass 103 and a glass substrate 101, arranged opposite to this front glass 103 and of which the inside is exhausted vacuum, a field emission type electron emission source 110 which is arranged on the glass substrate 101 in the outer enclosing unit, an electron extraction electrode 120, which is arranged separated by a distance from this electron emission source 110, and a fluorescent substance membrane 140B, 140G, 140R which are arranged on the inner face of the front glass 103. The electron emission source 110 is composed of a plate shape metal member 11, which has many penetrating holes and becomes a formation core for nanotube fibers and a membrane 112, made of many nanotube fibers which are arranged on the surface and the penetrating holes wall of the metal member 111.
