TREATING APPARATUS UTILIZING ULTRAVIOLET RAY

A light diffusion structure for lessening the unevenness of luminance by irradiating an article to be treated with UV-rays emitted from a UV-ray discharge tube (50) after diffusing the UV-rays. The light diffusion structure is produced by coating the inner surface of an arc tube (10) with a thin film (11) of white color, making fine irregularities on the inner or outer surface of the arc tube (10), or composing a translucent outer tube (protective tube) (60) containing the discharge tube (50) of a semitransparent (diffusing/transmitting) material. Highly efficient treatment can be ensured by enhancing the sterilizing/cleaning capacity to match the ultraviolet irradiation of a high density ultraviolet light source.
