The aim of the invention is to describe a simple method with which several different impact severities may be differentiated, whereby the deceleration measured by a front sensor arranged in the front region of the vehicle, or the speed (v), derived therefrom by integration, is compared with a base threshold (GS). Said threshold has a gradient such that the threshold is not exceeded by a measured deceleration/speed (v), at which the retaining means in the vehicle shall only just not be released. At least one further threshold (S1, S2) with a steeper slope than the base threshold (GS) is provided. Said further threshold (S1, S2) branches from the base threshold (GS) at the point where the base threshold (GS) is exceeded by the measured deceleration/speed (v). The slope of the at least one further threshold (S1, S2) is chosen such that the measured deceleration/speed (v) only exceeds said slope in the case where a certain collision severity is exceeded. |
