PURPOSE: Provided is a novel process for the preparation of tocol and tocopherol acylates. The acylation of tocol and tocopherol can advantageously be effected under irradiation with microwaves. CONSTITUTION: The process for the preparation of tocol and tocopherol acylates comprises reacting tocol or a tocopherol with an acylating agent under irradiation with microwaves in the absence of a catalyst, wherein the tocopherol is (all-rac)- alpha -tocopherol; the acylating agent is an acetylating agent; and a microwave source of about 600 to about 1200 W is used.
