The assembly (32) to move a transfer strip (34), to carry a flexible web e.g. of paper or cardboard between machine sections, has an additional guide plate (60) at the entry zone (48) of the conveyor (42) and preferably parallel to the carrier level (56') of the conveyor belt (56). The air stream (46), directed at the pocket (66) of the folded leading end of the strip, has a faster air speed than the speed of the transfer strip movement to open the folded pocket partially. The web transfer strip movement assembly has an air stream to act on the folded pocket at the leading end of the transfer strip, with an air stream speed which is at least temporarily /-1.2 or /-1.5 or /-2 or /-3 times the transfer strip movement speed. The air stream is only activated to move the web transfer strip, to deliver air streams in pulsed bursts with at least one air jet pulse for each strip transfer action. The additional guide plate, parallel to the carrier level of the conveyor belt, is at the cutter (50) and the leading roller (52) of the conveyor belt, supported at the cutter or integrated into it. The plate is supported by a vertical bar (62) at the side away from the transfer strip, and at the leading end of the plate in the direction (L) of strip travel, or it is between the plate ends. The carrier level of the conveyor belt is horizontal, and the guide plate is also horizontal. The air jet (44) is at the leading end of the initial strip guide plate (40), and is mounted to it. The leading guide plate is parallel to the additional guide plate, and can swing around an axis (68) which lies across the direction of strip travel. A scraper (38) detaches the web transfer strip from the preceding machine section (36). A further jet can direct an air stream at the pocket of the folded transfer strip, with an alignment to open it out at the leading end of the second guide plate.
