A portable electronic percussion instrument (2) includes a plurality of body-mountable sensors (10) and a controller (20) providing an audio signal output. The sensors (10) are adapted to produce signals that are representative of the sensors (10) sensing a physical condition, such as surface contact, pressure, position, velocity or acceleration. The controller (20) is in communication with the sensors (10) and is adapted to receive the sensor signals and produce corresponding audio signals. An audio output device, such as a headphone set (50), can be connected to the controller to receive the audio signals and produce corresponding audio output sounds.
