COMPATIBLE OPTICAL PICK-UP DEVICE EMPLOYING SINGLE OPTICAL SOURCE

PURPOSE: A compatible optical pick-up device employing a single optical source is provided, which uses a single optical source that emits beams having wavelengths longer than 650nm so as to employ both of CD and DVD. CONSTITUTION: The compatible optical pick-up device includes a single optical source(50), an objective lens(70), an optical path converter, and a light detector. The single optical source emits beams having wavelengths longer than 650nm. The objective lens focuses a beam emitted from the optical source to form light spots on the first and second optical discs(40a,40b). The first optical disc is relatively thin and the second optical disc is relatively thick. The optical path converter is arranged between the optical source and the objective lens and changes the traveling path of an incident light. The light detector receives light that was reflected from the optical disc and passed the objective lens and optical path converter to detect an information signal and/or error signal.
