AUTOMATICALLY DEPLOYING ROLL-OVER PROTECTION SYSTEM

A roll-over protection system for a vehicle having an open top seating area is provided including at least one sensor for detecting a predetermined roll condition of a vehicle, at least one protection member connected to the vehicle to be deployed for keeping the vehicle from rolling onto a passenger in the seating area, and an actuator which automatically deploys the protection member when the sensor detects the predetermined vehicle roll condition. The protection member is configured to permit operation of the vehicle in low clearance conditions. A sensor assembly senses, for example, rotational displacement of the vehicle. An information processor such as a microcontroller receives the information from the sensor assembly and sends a trigger signal to deploy the protection member if an unsafe condition is detected.
