The mass spectrometer has HF quadrupole ion trap provided by a pair of dome-shaped end electrodes (1,2), a ring electrode (3) and a secondary electron multiplier acting as an ion detector (5), with a shape and a potential which allow it to be incorporated in the dome of one of the end electrodes. An Independent claim for a mass spectrum measuring method is also included.
