PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to reduce the leak current due to the light irradiation and to improve the off characteristic of a thin film transistor. CONSTITUTION: A channel protection film(8) is formed a little smaller in area than the gate electrode(4) formed of a shielding metal film. A semiconductor thin film is formed while the thickness is set not less than 200 and less than 400. A distance(A) between the edge of the gate electrode in the channel length direction and the edge of the channel protection film is set around 0.2 to 1.2μm. A distance(B) between the edge of the gate electrode in the channel width direction and the edge of the channel protection film is set around 1-2μm. With the constitution, the leak current of the thin film transistor due to the light irradiation is reduced.
