The invention relates to a method and a device for producing metallic, non-rotationally symmetrical rings with a constant wall thickness over their circumference, in particular cam rings, starting from a hot-rolled pipe. Individual sections are cut from said pipe, mechanically machined and subsequently hardened and tempered. The invention is characterized in that pipe rings of equal width are cut from the pipe and are machined on all sides and that the non-rotationally symmetrical shape is produced by a cold-forming process, said pipe or cut pipe-ring having a suitable structure for said process.
