A new bridge is supported on newly constructed foundations, put in place while the old bridge is still in situ. The old bridge is removed and the new bridge is put in its place without the use of a temporary bridge, and by blocking the traffic once only. The bridge (1) has supports (5), esp. horizontal stringers (7), which consist of esp. pre-fabricated steel sections, and are imbedded into cast concrete (15). The stringers are defined by chamber walls (11) of pre-fabricated concrete parts, which form an integral unit with the cast material. The stringers are supported on steel foundations (6).
