System comprises two linked computer units. Menu control and selection is undertaken on the first passive unit. Speech input to the unit is from a dialog partner unit that instructs the menu unit with spoken commands. The spoken words preferably DTMF (digital tone multi frequency) signals. The second dialog unit (6) comprises a speech module that generates spoken words or tone signals and sends them to the passive menu unit (5) to simulate a dialog. Independent claims are made for a computer unit that has a link to another computer unit to carry out menu testing using a spoken dialog and use of such a system to test so-called speech boxes.
