PURPOSE: An optical device used for a liquid crystal display is provided, which has a simple structure so as to easily realize high magnification and high resolution of liquid crystal displays. CONSTITUTION: An optical device used for a liquid crystal display includes a light source(41) for emitting light, a reflection-type liquid crystal plate(47), and a reflector(45). The reflection-type liquid crystal plate is disposed above the light source, having a predetermined distance between the liquid crystal plate and the light source, and optically modulates light into an image. The reflector is disposed between the light source and the reflection-type liquid crystal plate to uniformly project the light emitted from the light source on the liquid crystal plate, receives the light optically modulated through the liquid crystal plate, and reflect the received light to transmit the light to the human eyes.
