<p>A vehicle speed monitoring system which includes a plurality of vehicle speed recording devices (10) that are installed in vehicles, and a remote central processor (12). Each speed recording device (10) includes a speed recorder that is linked to the vehicle's speedometer, a data storage device in which a preset reference speed limit is stored, a vehicle processor that is operable to compare the vehicle's speed as measured by the speedometer, with the reference speed limit and to generate a signal in response to the speed of the vehicle being higher than the reference speed limit, and a signal transmitter that is operable to transmit the signal to the central processor which then issues a fine for the speed transgression. The signal carries information on the vehicle's speed and a code that is unique to the vehicle, thereby permitting the identification of the vehicle.</p> |
