Method and apparatus for controlling the regeneration of a particle filter in an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine

The method includes measuring the loss of load of the exhaust gas in the filter (3), and triggering a regeneration of the filter by combustion of the soot, when this loss of load passes a predetermined threshold (DeltaPs) function of the functioning point of the engine. The carbon monoxide concentration in the exhaust gas is monitored, from the exit of the filter during this regeneration and it is stopped when this concentration falls below a predetermined level.
