PURPOSE: A settlement system and method is provided to ensure convenient settlement while solving security problems of credit cards by carrying out settlement with a radio communication device having a bar code scanner. CONSTITUTION: A settlement system includes a radio bar code scanner(10), a server(40), an enterprise(20) and a bank(30). The server(40) stores data of customers using the radio bar code scanner(10), the enterprise(20) supplying articles attached with bar codes and the bank(30) for relaying settlement service between the customers and the enterprise(20). The radio bar code scanner(10) is connected to the Internet, and transmits bar code data read from a purchased article into the server(40). The server(40) extracts article data and customer data from the bar code data from the radio bar code scanner(10), and informs a transaction to the bank(30). The bank(30) admits the transaction, and the enterprise(20) hands over the purchased article to the customer.
