MULTIFUNCTION INTERFACE APPARATUS FOR MOUNTING TELEPHONE

PURPOSE: A multifunction interface apparatus for mounting a telephone is provided to allow users who are not accustomed to a personal computer to make a free Internet phone call by using a general telephone set. CONSTITUTION: An Ethernet unit connects the Internet network(140) and a personal computer(130). A telephone set interface unit transmits a bell sound and voice to a general telephone set(120) and reads out a DTMF tone received from the telephone set(120) and extracts a voice to convert it to a pulse code modulation(PCM) signal. A digital signal processor(114) compresses and decompresses the PCM signal received from the telephone set interface unit at a voice compression ratio required by the ITU-T standard H.323. A switch unit(116) connects a public switched telephone network(150) and the telephone set(120) at normal times and connects the Internet network(140) and the telephone set(120) when making an Internet phone call. A main processing unit(113) connects and disconnects to the Internet network(140) via the Ethernet unit, manages the status of the general telephone set(120), inputs and outputs voice data to/from the digital signal processing unit(114), and implements a phone call via the Internet including the H.323 protocol.
