This invention discloses an apparatus to cut material in plates by means of a high-pressure water jet. The plate is being kept in vertical or almost vertical position leaning on two tables placed endwise and separated by an interspace wide enough to let a cutting tool pass, said tool being fixed to a dragging tape closing said interspace. The cutting tool is provided with means to direct a high-pressure water jet, which is located on one side of the plate-supporting table, and frictional damper devices which are located on the opposite side. The damper is moving in synchrony with the cutting nozzle and is fixed to said sliding tape along said interspace. <IMAGE>
