PURPOSE: Provided are polyfluoroalkylsilanes, their preparation process, their use, and liquid crystals prepared therewith. CONSTITUTION: A process for the preparation of polyfluoroalkylsilanes of formula(1), in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and are hydrogen, halogen, straight-chain or branched C1-C8-alkyl, C3-C9-cycloalkyl, C1-C8-alkoxy, C1-C8-alkylthio, C6-C14-aryl, C1-C8-alkyl-, acyl-, sulfonyl-, or C6-C14-aryl-disubstituted amine, C6-C14-aryloxy, C6-C14-arylthio, heteroaryl, heteroaryloxy, or cyano, wherein said radicals, apart from hydrogen, halogen, and cyano, optionally carry one or more substituents selected from the series consisting of halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C6-C14-aryloxy, silyloxy, nitro, cyano, C1-C4-alkyl-, acyl-, sulfonyl-, or C6-C14-aryl-disubstituted amine, disilylamino, and COO(C1-C6-alkyl), and R3 to R5 are identical or different and are straight-chain or branched C1-C8-alkyl or C6-C14-aryl, which optionally carry one or more substituents selected from the series consisting of halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C6-C14-aryloxy, silyloxy, nitro, cyano, C1-C4-alkyl-, acyl-, sulfonyl-, or C6-C14-aryl-disubstituted amine, disilylamino, and COO(C1-C6-alkyl), comprises reacting compounds of formula(2) wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above, with compounds of formula(3) wherein R3 and R5 are as defined above, in the presence of a base.
