PURPOSE: A method for preparing a modified syndiotactic polystyrene using an extruder is provided, to improve the compatibility and mixability with other polar polymers and the impact strength. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of mixing a syndiotactic polystyrene powder or pallet with an initiator; injecting the mixture into an extruder to melt them; and introducing a polar monomer through a side feeder of an extruder, and recollecting the unreacted polymer monomer before the molten reaction flow is released at the terminal of an extruder. Preferably the second process is carried out at a temperature of 275-290 deg.C and the retention time of the mixture in an extruder is 2-10 min. The syndiotactic polystyrene is preferably represented by the formula 1, wherein R is H, a halogen atom, a group containing C, O, N, S, P or Si; m is an integer of 1-3; n is a degree of polymerization and is an integer more than 5; and the benzene rings are arranged for syndiotactic structure, and has a syndiotacticity of 97% or more (measured by NMR).
