In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing optically pure enantiomers of R-(-)tamsulosin of the general formula (Ia) and S-(+)tamsulosin of the general formula (Ib) by splitting a racemic tamsulosin of the general formula (I) by treatment thereof with the (1R)-(-)-camphor-10-sulfonic, respectively (1S)-(+)-camphor-10-sulfonic acid in the medium of organic solvents, water or mixtures thereof.
