PURPOSE: A refrigerant-existence sensing device of an air conditioner is provided to prevent a compressor from overheating as well as to inhibit unnecessary driving of the compressor if refrigerant is not detected, by sensing the existence of refrigerant. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerant-existence sensing device of an air conditioner consists of a suction temperature sensor measuring the suction temperature of air sucked through a suction port(51) of a cabinet(50); a discharge temperature sensor measuring the discharge temperature of air discharged through a discharge port(53) of the cabinet; and a control unit(65) deciding the existence of refrigerant by comparing the suction temperature with the discharge temperature, and then deciding the running status of a compressor according to the result. If the control unit decides no refrigerant in the compressor, the control unit outputs a no-refrigerant signal through a display window(67A) or an alarming device. Thereby, a user refills the compressor with refrigerant.
