PURPOSE: A floating-type head slider and a recording/reproducing apparatus employing the same are provided to allow a floating head slider to have high reliability, even in an environment in which dust comes into the recording/reproducing apparatus employing such a floating head slider. CONSTITUTION: A floating-type head slider has a rail plane which functions as an air bearing in accordance with a kinetic pressure of an air flow caused by rotation of a recording medium. And the floating-type header slider supports a recording/reproducing device for recording and reproducing information while keeping a predetermined gap between the device and a surface of the recording medium. An edge(12,13) of the rail plane comprises only either of ellipses and circles, and tangent lines thereof, while smoothly connecting a plurality of straight lines and two ends of the straight lines, wherein the edge of the rail plane placed at the same height is constituted to be continuously endless.
