The method involves a theft protection system with a control device (WFS) contg. an immobiliser function, at least one other theft relevant component (MSG,FB) and bidirectional communications paths (US) between theft relevant components, an external central unit (ZS) and a monitoring unit (UE) for data transfer between theft relevant components and the central unit. Before first activation, characteristic identification numbers are stored in non-volatile data memory device with externally non-readable home numbers. The identification and home numbers are registered with the central unit. The identification numbers (ID) are transferred within the system in clear text. The home numbers (GN), which are not transferred in clear text, serve as communications keys for cryptological protocols for data transfer between components and/or with the central unit. |
