PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for searching for a mobile station signal in a CDMA system is provided to ensure the acquisition probability of a mobile station signal to the maximum by setting the size of a search window in consideration of propagation environment in a handoff. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for searching for a mobile station signal in a CDMA system consists of a mobile station(100), a serving BS(Base Station)(200), a BSC(Base Station Controller)(300), and a target BS(400). The mobile station(100) calculates a pilot PN phase in a handoff and carries a PSMM(Pilot Strength Measure Message) with it. The serving BS(200) comprises a channel element(210) and a BCP(BS Control Processor)(220). The channel element(210) calculates an RTDs value, a round trip delay value up to the serving BS(200), and outputs it together with the pilot PN phase. The BCP(220) controls and transmits the RTDs value and the pilot PN phase. The BSC(300) includes a TSB(Transcoding Selector Bank)(310) and a CCP(Call Control Processor)(320). The TSB(310) receives the RTDs value and the pilot PN phase from the BCP(220) and transmits them to the CCP(320). The CCP(320) calculates an RTDt value using the RTDs value and the pilot PN phase after calculating the pilot PN offset value of the target BS(400), sets window size in proportion to the calculated RTDt, and transmits it to the target BS(400) with the RTDt value. The target BS(400) comprises a BCP(410) and a channel element(420). The BCP(410) controls the RTDt value inputted from the CCP(320) and the window size signal equivalent to the RTDt value and transmits them to the channel element(420). The channel element(420) sets the center and size of the search window using the RTDt value and the window size signal inputted from the BCP(410).
