PURPOSE: An improved comb filter is provided, which normally separates a luminance signal and chrominance signal from a composite video signal without mixing of the luminance signal with the chrominance signal. CONSTITUTION: A comb filter includes an A/D converter(11) for receiving a composite video signal to convert the video signal into a digital signal in response to a line lock clock signal, a signal generator(12) for receiving the output signal of the A/D converter to generate the line lock clock signal and a jitter information signal, and a jitter compensation unit(13) for tracking the sub carrier frequency of the output signal of the A/D converter in response to the jitter information signal and generating a new sub carrier from which jitter was removed based on the tracked result. The comb filter further has a color difference signal extracting unit(14) for receiving the output signal of the A/D converter to extract a color difference signal in response to the new sub carrier, a modulator(15) for modulating the color difference signal to generate a chrominance signal in response to the new subs carrier, and a subtractor(16) for subtracting the chrominance signal from the output signal of the A/D converter to output a luminance signal.
